Projects Under Construction

Not all of my projects are done just yet.  Here are a few that I'm still working on!

Additive Manufacturing of Magnetic Materials
SCOPE Raytheon - Fall 2016-Spring 2017

For SCOPE, the Senior Capstone Project in Engineering, students do a project for a partner company that makes a real difference.  I'm worked on a team of 5 for Raytheon to find magnetic materials that will decrease the size of passive elements in an RF circuit by 50%.  My main contribution is the additive manufacturing process - we researched processes that will work with gels, pastes, and inks, and I modified a MakerBot Replicator 2X to print our testing platforms.  The project has been continued, and I act as a consultant for this year's SCOPE team.

MakerBot Cupcake Reconstruction
Late Summer 2015 - Present

A few summers ago, I inherited a MakerBot Cupcake from my college.  I jumped at the offer.  I deconstructed it, shipped it home, and started putting it back together with my youngest sistser.

I've been slowly working with my younger sisters to get the printer up, running, and calibrated.  Once it's working, I'd like to modify the printer to extrude with a stepper motor, and to find or make a Frostruder for cupcake decorating.  My main goal is to get my youngest sister as involved with 3D printers as I am.

Fixing Darwin
Fall 2013 - Present

This is Darwin.  He's a Pleo, and has a flaw that is unfortunately common in them - the cable that makes his head move up and down broke.  This happens often, and any replacement cables will eventually break as well.  Darwin belongs to a close friend of mine who requested that I try to fix him and figure out what keeps making the cables break.

So far, I've successfully replaced the cable, and I replaced the guides that I'm convinced broke the cable the first times.  Darwin now has his full range of motion.  Before I can call this a success, I'll need to check on the replacement guides and the cable when I go home.
